What's the difference! (Discussion)

There are some words, which have lexically the same meaning. But still they have difference between them. Such as “Invention” and “Discovery”.

Both the word mean ‘Find’. But ‘invention’ means that, someone has found or created a totally new object which had no existance in the world before it was created. Such as “Robot” is an invention. But ‘discovery’ means to find something in a new way which already has been created a long ago. As an example, to find the ruins of a civilization is discovery.

Some of the sentences have also different meaning like this. Such as, “I went to school” and “I went to the school”. ‘I went to school’ means I went to school as a student. But the other one means I went to school for some other work, but not as a student.

There are a large number of words and sentences like this. Do you know some of them? Share with me.

“I love a girl” and “I love the girl”. In the first sentence, you simply love a girl that you don’t know but in the second sentence, besides loving her, you know her.

Another confusing combination is Rage, Wrath.

Both basically mean the same – but wrath is a “higher” term, reserved for a more specialized use. Rage is more commonplace in comparison.

I guess a number of synonyms will come under this bracket. What do you think?

The two words invent and discovery are completely different because to invent states that to create something by our own creations but to discover means to search for the thing which is already present
